First Semester Subject
Ever wondered how our government works, why we have certain laws, or how you can make your voice heard? Philippine Politics and Governance is the subject that answers those questions. It's all about helping you understand the structure of our government and the political processes that shape our country. You'll learn about the government's three branches—executive, legislative, and judicial—and study the Constitution to understand your basic rights as a Filipino citizen. The main goal of this subject is to turn you from a passive citizen into an informed and active participant in our democracy, empowering you to understand the power you hold and how you can use it to create a better society for everyone.
Second Semester Subject
Disciplines and Ideas in the Social Sciences (DISS) is a Senior High School subject that introduces students to the different fields of social science, such as sociology, anthropology, political science, economics, psychology, geography, and history. It helps us understand how each discipline studies people, society, and human behavior in different ways, and how these ideas can be applied to real-life issues. Through DISS, we learn critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills while also gaining a deeper appreciation of how social sciences explain human actions, relationships, and communities. The subject also builds values like open-mindedness, empathy, and social awareness, which are important for understanding both local and global issues. Its inclusion in the K to 12 curriculum is meant to prepare students to be reflective, informed, and socially responsible individuals who can use social science perspectives to better understand the world and contribute to positive change.
